Sheer Curtains Dubai Interiors: How They Improve Every Room

How Sheer Curtains Improve Different Dubai Interiors?

Dubai sun is bright almost every day of the year. Sheer curtains make that light soft. They cut the glare, keep your view, and give you privacy in the daytime. That is why they suit almost every room, from a small apartment bedroom to a big villa living room.

A sheer curtain is a thin fabric that you can partly see through. Most sheers are made of voile, a fine polyester fabric. Some are made of linen or a linen-look weave.

Here is what a sheer does for a room:

  • It softens strong light. The room stays bright, but the light is gentle on your eyes.
  • It cuts glare. TV and laptop screens are easier to see.
  • It gives daytime privacy. People outside cannot see in easily while it is light outside.
  • It makes the room feel bigger. Light fabric looks airy and calm.

There is one thing a sheer cannot do. It does not block light, and it does not hide the room at night when your lights are on. For that, you need a second, thicker curtain. Below, we show how to use sheers in each type of room.

In Dubai, sheer curtains are a popular choice for living rooms because they soften bright daylight while keeping the space feeling open and airy.

Sheer curtains room by room

Villa Privacy from the street and neighbours Yes, in the day Heavier curtains in the majlis and formal rooms
Office Less glare on screens Yes A roller blind where a desk faces the window
Large windows Covers the glass, keeps the view Yes, in the day A blackout curtain on a second track
Kids’ room Soft light for play time No A blackout curtain for naps

Sheer curtains for the living room

The living room is where a sheer helps the most. Most living rooms in Dubai face a balcony or a big window. In the afternoon, the sun can make the room hot and the TV hard to see.

A sheer across the window helps in three ways:

  • The light spreads out. You do not get hot, bright patches on the floor and sofa.
  • You keep your view. You can still see the city, the sea or the garden.
  • Your furniture lasts longer. Strong sun fades sofas and rugs. A sheer takes some of that sun first.

Which style? In a modern apartment, a wave sheer on a ceiling track looks clean and simple. In a classic room, a pinch pleat sheer looks more formal.

Which colour? White and ivory keep the room bright. Soft grey or beige cut more glare and do not show dust as fast.

Remember that at night, people outside can see in through a sheer when your lights are on. If your living room faces a street or another building, add a thicker curtain in front.

Sheer curtains are a practical choice for Dubai living rooms, offering soft daylight and a light, airy look. Wave sheers on ceiling tracks suit modern interiors, while pinch pleat styles work well in more classic spaces.

Sheer curtains for the living room

Sheer curtains for the bedroom

In a bedroom, a sheer alone is not enough. In summer, the sun comes up very early in Dubai. A sheer will not keep the room dark, so you will wake up with the light.

The best answer is two curtains on the same window:

  1. The sheer goes at the back, close to the glass. Close it in the day. You get privacy and soft light while you get dressed or work.
  2. A blackout curtain goes in front. Close it at night and early in the morning to keep the room dark.

This works well in kids’ rooms too, and for anyone who sleeps in the day after a night shift.

Does your bedroom window face another building close by? Then choose a thicker sheer, such as a linen-look one. It hides the room better but still lets light in.

Tip: pick a sheer in the same colour family as your blackout curtain. Then the window looks neat, whichever curtain is closed.

Sheer curtains for villas

Villas in places like Arabian Ranches, Dubai Hills and Palm Jumeirah often have tall windows and glass doors to the garden. Neighbours and people walking by are close. Sheers give these homes privacy in the day without making them dark.

Where sheers work best in a villa:

  • Ground floor rooms that face the street or the garden.
  • Very tall windows in the entrance or a double-height living room. A heavy curtain can look too big here.
  • The majlis. Put sheers behind the heavier formal curtains. Guests get privacy, and the room still feels open.
  • Stairs and corridors, where people rarely close full curtains.

Tip: use the same sheer colour on every window that faces the street. From outside, the house looks neat and matching, even if the curtains inside are different in each room.

For villa interiors in Dubai, choosing the right curtains for each room is important. Blackout curtains can help create a darker, more comfortable bedroom, while sheer curtains allow soft daylight into living areas. Accurate measurements and professional fitting help ensure a neat finish across all windows.

Sheer curtains for offices

In an office, the biggest problem is glare on computer screens. Many offices in Business Bay and other glass towers have huge windows. Without any curtain, staff often pull the blinds down all day and work under lamps.

Sheers give a middle way:

  • Less glare. Screens are easy to read.
  • More daylight. The office still feels bright and open.
  • More privacy. Meeting rooms feel less on show to the next building.
  • A finished look. Reception and client rooms look smart.

Wave sheers on a ceiling track are a good choice for offices. They look the same along a long row of windows, and they fold away neatly. If a desk faces the window straight on, add a roller blind behind the sheer for stronger glare control.

For offices, clinics and hotels, ask for fire-rated (flame-retardant) fabric. Many buildings ask for it, so check with your building management before you order.

Sheer curtains for large windows

Many apartments in Downtown Dubai, Business Bay and Dubai Marina have glass from the floor to the ceiling. This glass lets in a lot of light and heat. A heavy curtain over the whole wall can make the room feel dark and closed. A sheer covers the glass and keeps the view.

How to get it right:

  • Hang it from the ceiling. A ceiling track lets the sheer run the full height. The room looks taller, and the top of the glass is covered too.
  • Choose a wave style. It gives even, soft folds across a wide window. See our wave curtains.
  • Order enough fabric. A sheer needs about 2 to 2.5 times the window width, so it can fold nicely. A flat sheer looks thin and cheap.
  • Stop just above the floor. About 1 cm above the floor looks neat and does not pick up dust.
  • Think about a motor. On very wide or tall windows, a motorized curtain opens and closes with a remote.

Layered curtains: sheer and blackout together

Layered curtains means two curtains on one window: a sheer and a thicker curtain. You can then pick how much light you want at any time of day. For most homes in Dubai, this is the most useful set-up.

How it works:

  1. A double track (or two rods) is fixed above the window.
  2. The sheer hangs on the back track, next to the glass.
  3. The thicker curtain hangs on the front track. This can be blackout, lined or decorative.
  4. In the day, close the sheer and open the thick curtain. At night, close both.

Tips for a good result:

  • Use the same style on both, such as wave with wave, so the fold match.
  • Choose a sheer that is lighter in colour than the front curtain.
  • Leave enough space between the two tracks so the curtains do not rub.
  • No room for a double track? Double hooks can hold both curtains on one track.

Layers also help with heat. A blackout curtain closed in the hot afternoon keeps some heat out. In the morning, the sheer lets the soft light back in.

How to choose and care for sheer curtains in Dubai

Fabric How it looks Daytime privacy Good to know
Polyester voile Fine, smooth, very light Low to medium Keeps its colour in the sun and is easy to wash. The most popular choice.
Linen-look polyester Textured and natural Medium Looks like linen but does not crease as much.
Linen blend Soft and natural Medium Looks lovely, but creases and can fade faster in strong sun.
Embroidered or patterned sheer Decorative Medium The pattern adds privacy. Good for a majlis or formal room.

Think about the sun. In Dubai, west-facing rooms get the hottest afternoon sun. South-facing rooms get sun for much of the day. These rooms need a sheer plus a blackout layer. North-facing rooms get softer light, so a sheer alone is often fine.

Pick the colour. White and ivory make a room brighter. Grey and beige cut more glare and hide dust better.

Wash it gently. Take the hooks out first. Wash most polyester sheers on a cool, gentle cycle. Do not tumble dry. Hang the sheer back up while it is still a little damp, and the creases will drop out.

Watch the dust. Fine dust settles on sheers near balconies and windows. A gentle wash every few months keeps them bright.

From our fitting team: add the sheer fabric customers choose most, and one mistake you often see.

Frequently asked questions

Do sheer curtains give privacy?

Yes, in the day. When it is brighter outside than inside, it is hard to see in through a sheer. At night, when your lights are on, people outside can see in. Add a thicker curtain for night-time privacy.

Can you see through sheer curtains at night?

Yes. With the lights on inside, a sheer shows shapes and movement to people outside. Close a blackout or lined curtain at night.

Do sheer curtains keep a room cool?

Only a little. A sheer takes the edge off direct sun, but it is too thin to stop much heat. To keep a room cooler, add a blackout or lined curtain on a second track.

Can I use only sheer curtains in a bedroom?

Only if you can sleep with light in the room. Most people add a blackout curtain, because a sheer does not make a bedroom dark.

What is the best colour for sheer curtains in Dubai?

White or ivory for a bright, fresh room. Soft grey or beige if the room gets strong afternoon sun or a lot of dust.

Which style is best for sheer curtains?

Wave for modern apartments and big glass walls. Pinch pleat for classic and formal rooms. Pencil pleat for a simple, lower-cost look.

How wide should a sheer curtain be?

About 2 to 2.5 times the width of the window. This extra fabric gives the sheer soft, full folds.

Voile or linen: which sheer is better?

Voile is light, smooth and easy to wash, and it keeps its colour well in the sun. Linen looks more natural but creases and can fade sooner. A linen-look polyester gives you the look of linen with easier care.

Can sheer and blackout curtains go on one track?

Yes, with double hooks that hold both curtains. A double track is better if you have space, because each curtain then opens on its own.

How often should I wash sheer curtains?

Every few months in most Dubai homes. Wash them more often if they hang near a balcony or an open window, where dust settles.

Find the right sheer for your room

Every room needs something a little different. Living rooms and offices need less glare. Villas need daytime privacy. Bedrooms need a sheer and a blackout together. Big windows look best with a wave sheer on a ceiling track.
